How to manually path a 'non-installed' executable image of a CAD Design Software Product:

  • Copy the software directory to hard drive (any place is fine or use the C:\Program Files\CAD Design Software\ directory)

  • Make a copy of an existing desktop shortcut. Either AutoCAD or an existing EPD icon.

  • Rename icon to [product name]

  • Right-click on new icon and select Properties

  • At the end of the Target, add a new profile -p anyname (No spaces in name)
    ex. "C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2006\acad.exe" -p anyname
(Depending on the AutoCAD version, this path may be different)

  • Pick the Change Icon button and browse to the root directory of the copied software directory.

  • Pick the ICO file and pick Open.

  • Pick OK and OK once more.

  • Double pick the new icon.

  • AutoCAD will warn there is no profile for 'anyname'

  • Pick OK.

  • When AutoCAD loads, type 'options' and press <Enter>

  • Pick the Files tab.

  • Open the Support File Search Path header and then pick the Plus symbol to open the tree view.

  • Pick the Add button.

  • Pick the Browse button.

  • Browse to the \ACAD\ folder of the copied software directory and pick OK.

  • Pick the Move Up button until the new path is at the top of the list.

  • Pick OK and close AutoCAD.

  • Double pick the new desktop icon and the software will load in.
