Introduction
CAD DESIGN SOFTWARE products use Macrovision FLEXlm to license all of its products. FLEXlm can be used in either locked or floating configurations.
Locked licensing dedicates a license to a particular computer or CDS hardware dongle key.
Floating licensing allows multiple users to share a license over a local network via a server or host computer and grants or denies licenses based on availability. With floating licensing, the license is assigned to the server name and MAC address and is defined as the license server, and each client workstation running the CDS requests licenses from the server as needed. The number of available seats are stored in the license file.
The license key can be generated from the Ethernet address (MAC) of the computer’s network card or disk volume serial number (DOS Prompt = c:\dir), or from the serial number of a CDS hardware dongle attached to the computers parallel or USB port.
You can purchase a license with full functionality or with one or more limited features. The license keys in the license file activate only the purchased products. CDS typically issues FLEXlm licenses on a yearly basis. Trial software evaluation licenses are generally issued for 15days.
When a purchased license expires, customer will be sent a quote to renew the AMC (Annual Maintenace Contract). Once a payment or PO is received by CDS, the customer will receive a 45-day Temporary License file via e-mail which is sent pending receipt of payment by CAD Design Software. Upon receipt of payment in full, the annual license file will be sent with an expiration date of your Annual Maintenance Contract
(AMC).
Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)
An Annual Maintenance Contract
(AMC) includes all software updates, revisions, and etc. as well as unlimited e-mail technical support. Further, requests for enhancements are welcomed and may be implemented without additional charge (at CDS’ discretion). In addition, AMC includes Live Web Update, which allows all users with current AMC to check for and automatically download and install updates, enhancements, etc. during the AMC term. It is an annual subscription and is calculated based on the current retail price of the software license (subject to change without notice). The software will automatically notify the user 30 days prior to expiration. If AMC expires and you choose not to renew the contract, an annual license will be issued that is locked to the last released version of the software you had at the time of AMC expiration. If AMC expires, you will no longer be entitled to any updates or upgrades and must pay a penalty for AMC reinstatement. Live Web Update will no longer be available, nor will technical support. A request to upgrade software after contract expiration will not be honored until you reinstate your AMC contract. In such cases, a lapsed maintenance penalty charge applies. It is the customer’s responsibility to renew AMC prior to its annual expiration date. We highly recommend that an Annual Maintenance Contract be maintained to insure receiving the latest software and full technical support.
CAD DESIGN SOFTWARE - AutoCAD VERSION

CAD Design Software is an Authorized Developer of Autodesk. CDS has been creating software for over 15 years using the AutoCAD engine as the base graphics engine. The facts; using the world's best CAD graphic engine in the most accurate, reliable and flexible design and programming environment available on the CAD and EDA market today equals the most
comprehensive EDA layout tool available!.
The AutoCAD version of CAD Design Software is a special version that plugs into your existing AutoCAD software for versions 2000 and higher only, LT is not supported.
When CDS being installed, the setup will search for AutoCAD on the local computer and creates a profile
(EPD.ARG). This will become the default AutoCAD profile unless another ARG file is created for just AutoCAD and does not load the CDS environment.
When CDS is opened, it will first launch AutoCAD and a new menu will appear:
CAD DESIGN SOFTWARE - WINDOWS VERSION

The Windows version of CAD Design Software is a self contained package that uses the OEM graphic engine of AutoCAD. This version is ideal for users without AutoCAD.

Supported for: Windows NT, 2000, XP

This Does Not apply to EPD for use with Windows
These instructions were written from a “Typical” install of AutoCAD. Custom toolbars and environment settings were made and saved.
Before installation:
- CAD Design Software will be installed into your existing AutoCAD installation configuration and create a Profile for itself.
- If you have customized your AutoCAD, such as menus, toolbars, etc., it is advised that you create a Profile for your custom configuration. This will allow you to use your AutoCAD as it was installed and configured and not load any CAD Design Software tools or environment.
- To configure a Profile of your custom AutoCAD configuration, follow these instructions.
- Open AutoCAD and navigate to the Tools menu and pick Options.
- The Options dialog box appears.
- Pick the Profiles tab.
- If no profiles have been saved, only the <> will appear.

The software image will decompress and temporarily install the needed components on your C: drive. This may take a few moments.
Once the image has decompressed, the Welcome dialog box appears.
Pick Next to continue.
Next, the License Agreement dialog box appears.
After reading and you agree with the software agreement, pick YES.
Enter Information about the user. In most cases, the setup program will use information already set for Windows.
Pick Next to continue.

Design Software
directory.
Optionally, pick the Browse button to install in another directory such as D:\EPD. Future references to this installation directory will be \EPD.
Pick Next to continue.
The setup program will now look for AutoCAD to install with.
If Multiple AutoCAD versions are
installed, select the one to install EPD with.
Pick OK to continue.
AutoCAD uses profiles to allow custom settings within AutoCAD. When CAD Design Software installs, a new profile will be created using default settings. Select the
<UnNamed
Profile> and pick OK.
Information about Profiles as written in AutoCAD® Help System:
You can use the Profiles tab in the Options dialog box to create and save your drawing environment settings as a profile. If you share your workstation with other users who use the same login name, you can restore your options by making the profile current. You can also create and save profiles to use with different projects. By default, AutoCAD stores your current options in a profile named UNNAMED PROFILE. AutoCAD displays the current profile name, as well as the current drawing name, in the Options dialog box. The profile information is stored in the system registry and can be saved to a text file (an ARG file). AutoCAD organizes essential data and maintains changes in the registry as necessary. Once you save a profile, you can export or import the ARG file to and from different computers. If you make changes to your current profile during an AutoCAD session and you want to save those changes in the ARG file, you must export the profile. When you export the profile with the current profile name, AutoCAD updates the ARG file with the new settings. You can import the profile again into AutoCAD to update your profile settings. For more information about profiles, see OPTIONS in AutoCAD’s Command Reference manual. For more information about command line switches, see Configuring and Optimizing AutoCAD in the online Installation Guide.
Typical - This will install all components. The program files, the help files and the sample files.
Compact - Installs only the EPD program files. Custom -Allows the user to select or deselect the sample files and the help files to be installed. The program files may not be deselected.
-Pick a radio button for a setup type (Recommend “Typical”).
-Pick the Next button to continue.
The setup program will create an installation script and begin the installation.
